Browsealoud is a speech-enabling tool which makes our website more accessible to people with visual impairment and other reading difficulties. Content is spoken aloud as the cursor is moved over it. Browsealoud software is free to download.

Internet Explorer
Making text larger in Internet Explorer 5, 6 and 7
1. Click on the Tools menu with your mouse or Alt T
2. Click on Internet options with your mouse or press O
3. You can now see the options box

4. Click on Accessibility with your mouse or press Alt E
5. Click on Ignore font sizes specified on web page checkbox to add a tick or press Alt Z

6. Click the OK button twice with your mouse or press Enter twice to return to Internet Explorer
NB. If this doesn’t work it could be because your computer settings cannot be changed and you should contact your IT support for further help
Zoom feature in Internet Explorer 7
1. Press Ctrl + to increase the zoom
2. Press Ctrl – to decrease the zoom

Firefox
Making text larger in Firefox 1.5 and 2.0
1. Open the View menu with the mouse or press Alt V
2. Select Text size with the mouse or press Z
3. Increase or decrease the size of the text with the mouse or by using the up and down arrow keys and pressing Enter
4. Alternatively you can press Ctrl + and Ctrl - to increase and decrease the text size.
5. To return to the normal size press Ctrl 0
Alternatively you can set a minimum text size for all pages you visit:
1. Click on Tools with the mouse or press Alt T
2. Click on Options or press O
3. Click on Content or use the arrow keys until it is highlighted
4. Click on Advanced in the Fonts and Colors box or press Alt D

5. Click on Minimum font size or press Alt O
6. Use the up and down arrows to select a new font size then click Enter

7. Click OK or press Enter
8. Click OK or tab to OK and press Enter
NB. If this doesn't work it could be because your computer settings cannot be changed and you should contact your IT support for further help

Apple

Safari
To increase the text size in Safari:
1. Click on View with the mouse
2. Go to Text size
3. Click on either make text larger or make text smaller
4. To reset click on make text normal size
Alternatively you can use the keyboard:
1. Click on apple + to increase the size of the text
2. Click on apple – to decrease the size of the text
3. Click on apple 0 to reset the text size
To set a larger text size for all pages you visit:
1. Click on the Safari menu with the mouse then click on Preferences or press Apple +,
2. Click on Appearance or press Ctrl F5 to highlight the General icon and then press the right arrow to highlight Appearance then press Spacebar
3. Click on Select next to Standard font or press Tab once to highlight Select then press spacebar

4. The Fonts window will open. Click on the font size you want or press Ctrl F6 followed by Ctrl F7 then Tab twice to enter the sizes box where you can type in the font size you want and press Enter

5. Click on the Close button or press Esc
6. Click on the Appearance close button or press Esc to return to Safari

Firefox
Making text larger in Firefox 1.5 / 2 / 3
1. Click on View with the mouse
2. Go to Zoom and for text only ensure zoom text only is ticked
3. Click on either Zoom in or Zoom out
4. To reset click on reset
Alternatively you can use the keyboard:
1. Click on apple + to increase the size of the text
2. Click on apple – to decrease the size of the text
3. Click on apple 0 to reset the size of the text
To permanently increase or decrease the size of the font for all pages you visit you must do the following:
1. Click the Firefox menu or go press Ctrl F2 and then press the right arrow to highlight the Firefox menu
2. Click on Preferences or use the down arrow to highlight and then click Enter
3. Select the Content tab or use the arrows to select it
4. Click on Advanced under Fonts and colors or use the Tab key to highlight it and then press the spacebar to select

5. Click on size next to Proportional and select the font size you want. Or Tab to size and use the up/down arrows to find the size and then Enter to select

6. Check the box which says Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above to turn it off or Tab to the check box, press spacebar to deselect
7. Click OK or press Enter
8. Press Apple W to return to Firefox
